The speculation about the recent awards show has been intense, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a desert monolith. The question has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is working on a brand-new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer that included memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.
A Different Direction
For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This choice of words implies that the team is likely building a faster-paced experience rather than another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it sparked the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, branching plots, and flexible progression—traits that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of specialized paths only possible by choosing a specific type of character with a specific history of choices.
The series is also wonderfully permissive, enabling players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be approached in diverse methods, frequently in lateral fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.
More to Come
It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can look forward to a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
